How to make my Bassett more at ease in a new home (kennel)?
June 29th, 2009 Posted by: admin
We moved to a new home a month ago and had him tethered to a pole with access to the garage for shelter. My husband built him a chainlink kennel that has a dog house in it. He cried and barked so badly last night thought he would wake the entire neighborhood.
He has always been an outside dog, so moving from indoors to outdoors is not the issue.

It may not be a bad idea to take an old blanket or something with your scent on it and place it with him in the dog house. Maybe that will help him in this new place feel like he really is “home”. Also, was there anything about the location of this new kennel to the house or a door (even windows) that varies greatly from your previous home? Maybe your dog was used to being able to see you or even house lights through a back door or something of that nature…?

try setting up a motion detecting light. he will like being able to think you are paying attention to him during the night.

Bassets are pack animals, they don’t like to be alone.
Why not bring him inside so he has company? What’s the point in having a dog as a lawn ornament?
