Why does my dog snap at my puppy over toys or bones, but he always lets her eat first?

I’m confused. My male dog is 8 mos old and my female puppy is 8 wks old. He won’t share any of his toys or bones with her and every time she gets a toy, he takes it from her. Even when I buy them identical toys and give him one first, he will go hide his and then take hers. I bought a fluffy pink bed and he takes it from her and lays in it. But, when I tell them it is time to eat, he just watches her eat or walks away and lets her eat first. Does anyone know why? I thought the Alpha dog always ate first. Also, is it possible to teach him to share his toys? I have tried telling him that this one is his and that one is hers. It only works while I am watching them. If I walk away, he will take it from her. He is a rat terrier and she is a Boston terrier.

Old Indian Witch Doctor Squaw #1 (Shaggy Dog Story)?

There was a lady who ran a small roadside tourist zoo along Route 66 in Texas. She had some farm animals, an old, staid lion, a couple of alligators and some weasels, but the stars of her zoo were these two dolphins she kept in a huge pool. One day, she noticed that her dolphins looked poorly and she began to worry. She tried everything she could think of to help them, but they just got worse and worse.
Finally, she went to an Old Indian Witch Doctor Squaw who lived nearby and was famous for her healing powers. The Old Indian Witch Doctor Squaw said that the zoo lady would have to find a very specific type of Mynah bird and feed two of them to each dolphin. After eating the Mynah birds, the dolphins would get better and, in fact, live forever. They would never die.
The problem was finding the Mynah birds. The zoo lady finally heard that there were four of these Mynah birds for sale at a pet store in Dallas, but they cost $5000 each.
She didn’t have the $20,000
So she decided to steal them. One night she went to the pet store, stole the Mynahs and returned to the tourist zoo. As she was tip-toeing towards the dolphins’ pool, she tripped over the old, staid lion who let out a roar and brought the cops who arrested the zoo lady.
What did they arrest her for? Why for “transporting Mynahs over a staid lion for immortal porpoises!”, of course!

If you can’t figure out the pun, I’ll post it in a couple of days . . . :-) Note: the pun comes from the Mann Act in the U.S. which forbids ” carrying minors across a state line for immoral purposes” . . . :-)

How do you find breeders for specific dogs? I want a toy terrier?

I don’t know if I should trust the news papers (want ads) vs. pet stores vs. kennels.

Is there any way to help mend my cat and dog drama?

Hi all,

We just adopted a new kitten yesterday and things are NOT going well between him and my five year old chihuahua. I posted a question not too long ago before I got the cat, asking how to do some proper introductions. I’ve been keeping them in seperate rooms–the cat seems to favor the basement for now and still sleeps in his cat carrier (we leave the door open and put some towels in there, so it’s like a little bed for him. My dog is going NUTS. She’s gotten terribly clingy. We adopted her about four months ago and she seems to know the word “cat”..we’re thinking perhaps that’s why the owners got rid of her, because they got a cat and she got clingy and obnoxious. Is there any way at all to help ease this? The poor thing wants to come upstairs but is too terrified of the dog’s yipping and growling. And I’m tired of spending half my day in the basement trying to get the cat used to me!

Any help would be great.

We bought Rid Worm Liquid by Hartz to get rid of our puppies hookworms, the instructions don’t say?

they dont say if it is a one dose thing, or if it goes evry 2 weeks or anything just says to give them 1 tsp per 5 lbs. He is 25.4 lbs so I gave him 5 tsp. How long does it take to work? when do I give him another treatment? Do I have to give him another treatment? Do I have to shampoo the carpet? We are going to bleach his doggie carrier and machine wash all his toys on hot. Will the cat get these worms? We are at an extended stay hotel and will be for some time and there is high dog traffic and limited areas where I can walk him as we are in Miami now. I have been taking him to a totally different area to deficate but it seems there is only so many areas he is allowed to go to go to the bathroom. I have looked on the Hartz website and it was the same info I already have which I am not satisfied with….Please help me with my questions…also are we at risk of getting the hookworms? Do we need to go to the doctor?
