I have two dogs who have lived together for 4 years. They have started fighting. How do I stop it?

They are 4.5 and 5.5 years old. The younger has been the alpha and has been a bully for the last 3 years toward the older and larger dog. Both spay females. The older dog is a 60 lb Blue Healer Aussie Mix. Generally mellow. The other is a 50 lb Dalmation-Terrier mix. Very high energy. I wonder if the older and larger dog has recently decided to challenge for alpha status?

How to communicate to a neighbor my concern for her dog?

I bought a house next door to a nice woman who works 70 hours a week, three jobs, so she can make her house payment. She has two dogs that are inside, and one that is chained in her backyard. She seems to pay more attention to the house dogs than the one in the yard, and I suspect she only has the outside dog for some protection (dog can’t really do anything if it’s chained!)

The other day, the outside dog got loose and my bf caught him and tried to tether him back to the broken chain. He noticed the dogs ears are bloody (we have a huge mosquito problem from being at the edge of a swampy woodland), and eye boogers galore. He was very very needy for attention, and my bf felt so bad.

We hardly see our neighbor, and I don’t want to have to call the humane society and cause a ruckus. So how can I tell her she needs to tend to her dog without causing a major offense? Should I volunteer to spend some time with the poor dog, or would that be too pushy?

Advice on free roaming dog?

Hello there,

I live in a very small rural community and in fact our road there is about 7 nice trailers and only two fenced yards (ours and our neighbors) I have two dogs and take the best care of them and in fact just adopted a pup from one of the local neighbors.

The thing is this neighbors dog breaks off of her chain all the time (I **** chaining) and he is never home and she always comes to my fence and neighbors and bothers the dogs…she is a menacing dog to the point of aggressive towards other dogs. I saw her running free with other dogs following and I am sure she is in heat and is gonna have another batch of pups. The owner is NEVER home, she is not spayed and it is getting to be a nuisance and threatening to the other dogs as she brings dogs from across the street that I do not know.

The local humane society cannot do anything and animal control seems unfair to her….they would end up putting her down.

I dunno what to do this owner is so irresponsible ugh!!
Sorry I forgot to add I have tried to get her to come to me, however, she is very wary she just barks and runs back a few dozen feet and watches me. I feel so bad for her.

How do you keep 2 dogs at home from fighting? Please help. don’t want to bring one back to the shelter?

My two dogs (Harley-3 year old 80 pound adopted rhodesian/pit and Stella 1 1/2 year old 45 pound adopted boxer/pit mix) are FINE with each other 98% of the time. They will even lie down near each other when in bed. They are fine around dinner time. Stella is crated and Harley is not (never was) and both are fixed.

It scares me that they fight about once every 8-10 days where my husband and I have to break them up. We have thrown out all toys that have caused fights and only allow them to have toys when they aren’t near each other.

2 fights have broken out when no toy was in the vicinity…just the two dogs and us.

They are serious fights, but no blood and no clamping onto each other where we can’t pull them apart. The only injury was the first fight when within the first week….a scrape on Stella’s ear—no stiches.

It is scary and we are unfortunately thinking of bringing Stella back because we just got her 2 months ago. They are both in training with us…we don’t know what else we can do!!!!! An animal behaviorist quoted us $400 for a 3 hour session. We can’t afford that right now, but can’t bear to bring her back to that awful shelter.

Please help!

I’m really worried about my dog.my bf & I split up after 5 yrs, and he wants me to leave one of my dogs?

with him. We have two dogs. The younger one is undeniably my dog. He picked me, you either know what I mean or you don’t. We had the other dog longer, and she is close to both of us. We split up once before we got the younger dog and there was no question I would keep the dog we had, call her Lady.
Now that we have two dogs he wants me to leave Lady with him. At first I was going along with this, I don’t want to be a you-know-what. I love my dog, but I know the younger one needs me more and if there is a decision to be made well… Thing is, I have 2 cats too, had them from before the bf. I moved out 8 days ago, and I took all the pets except for Lady. I think it broke her heart. I picked her up today and brought her to my place because the bf is going out of town. She is happy to see the pets, but I can tell she is mad at me, and I don’t think she has been eating well. I really want to do the right thing. Do I choose my dog’s feelings or my ex’s. My ex has bad anger issues. more comi
He would never hurt Lady, and as long as he is single it won’t come up much I don’t think. But I know she is really sensitive, she always hid when he would get angry. Is it fair to leave her in that environment when I won’t stay in it? Or is it fair of me to take 4 pets and leave him with none, even if I can legitimately argue that each one is truly “mine”. What would you do. I know no one can answer this for me, but I really don’t know what to do and I need some perspective.
Lady has “forgiven” me. She finally greeted me the way I am used to her doing when I first come through the door. I think I hurt her feelings. Thanks for the input guys.

Lethargic puppy?

My fiance and I have two dogs. Both were rescued. The older one is a parson jack russell and is turning 2 in july. The younger one is a jack russel and most likely Australian Cattle Dog; he will be 1 in july. During middle-end of Feb. We had their vaccinations done (re-done for older dog, we got him 1 yr ago. First time for younger) and de-wormed, they had hooks and whips. This past week or so the younger one has bouts of very unusal behavior. Rather then acting like his normal 8 mo. old, bouncy hyper puppy self, he is lethargic, not wanting to play and just wanting to cuddle or lay down somewhere. Yesterday the older puppy accidently ran into the younger one’s face (not hard) and the younger one yelped. The oddest part is that one minute or day he is hyper the next lethargic. Any ideas??
